Banteay Meanchey is located in northwestern Cambodia, bordering thus to Thailand. As the province of Battambang was the province of Banteay Meanchey between C16 and 20C. (1907) under Siam domination. The province was part of Battambang province. In 1988 the province was spun.
During World War II Siam (Thailand) Banteay Meanchey got back with the help of Japan. After the Second World War, the province was returned to Cambodia.
Banteay Meanchey means in German citadel of victory. In the province there auvh many temples. The famous temple called Banteay Chhmar temple.
The capital of Banteay Meanchey means Serey Sophorn (Thai: Sisophon).
