Kep is now a province and is located 173 km to the south of the country. The Province is 336 Km2 large. Kep has direct access to the Gulf of Thailand and is one of the most famous coastal cities of Cambodia. Kep is located a few kilometers west of the border with Vietnam. For a long time the most important Kep seaside resort of the country. Many of the colonial buildings were destroyed during the reign of the Khmer Rouge. Through the re-emergence of tourism in Cambodia, the city is blossoming slowly again.
